A Message From Diem Civin

I am honored to be participating in the People’s Choice competition during Spiva in Bloom. You can support my floral design with a monetary donation. The artist who raises the most will receive 50% of the total funds raised, while the remaining 50% directly benefits the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, supporting scholarships, educational outreach, classes, camps, and community programming. Thank you for your thoughtful support! My artist statement: This portrait of Angelina Jolie was a campaign to educate the public about wild bees and the importance of their role in protecting, preserving, and pollinating the Earth. Angelina Jolie had a special pheromone placed on her to allow the bees to sit on her while taking a portrait - she even had a bee go up her dress! Did you know bees are highly attracted to the colors purple, blue, yellow, and green? I chose to do a field of florals made completely of locally grown flowers that would attract wild bees and promote pollination if out in the wild. If you look closely, you might even see a little bee or two napping in a flower after a long day of pollinating!
