A Message From Brenna Heavin

I am honored to be participating in the People’s Choice competition during Spiva in Bloom. You can support my floral design with a monetary donation. The artist who raises the most will receive 50% of the total funds raised, while the remaining 50% directly benefits the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, supporting scholarships, educational outreach, classes, camps, and community programming. Thank you for your thoughtful support! My artist statement: ‘Helen Mirren’ by Dan Winters was such an exciting piece to interpret! To me, it embodies the essence of creativity. The portrayal of rigidity through the linear room, carried on through landscape styled arrangement on the top of the boxes, can represent the boundary lines many artists may feel confined to. Yet the ethereal quality of Mrs. Mirren, accompanied by the bottom two arrangements bursting forth, tell the story of creativity amidst the proverbial box they might be stuck in. The muted palette of the photo was an important aspect, but the bold red lip and finger nail polish are what caught my eye. Bringing a pop of color to an otherwise drab color story was integral to the photo, and to my interpretation of it.
